The Solemn Vow

As I lie in confused misery
A thought begins to form
Free of life and practicality
You are my love, my darling
Seasons are changing
And despite my shortcomings
I’ll be there when you need me
When you want me, if you’ll have me
It was sealed with a slip
Of your oh so perfect lips
Of creatures ancient and old
The question returned with laughter
We too innocent for us to notice the hold
So as I stand at the crossroads
I turn back, and I smile
I know which way I’m going
Straight on my love, straight on
